Rocky Mountain Bicycles
We LOVE our Rocky Mountain Bikes. They are such a treat for shredding, and fitting Mac Ride is an absolute breeze!
Diamond Back
Giant
Giant bikes work wonderfully with Mac Ride, including Giant e-bikes (with the Mac Ride e-bike adapter). Some Giant bikes, only those from 2011-2014 (Overdrive 2) have a larger steerer tube and will require our a special 1 1/4" spacer.
Norco
Santa Cruz
Specialized
Some Specialized bikes, like the Levo and Kenevo, require a few extra considerations in terms of compatibility. See the step by step considerations below.Pivot
Transition
Stooge
Cube
Some Cube bikes, like the Stereo, require a few extra steps to make them Ride More compatible. See the step by step considerations below.
Intense
Haibike
Salsa
Rad Power
Some Rad Power bikes have a cone shaped spacer that requires a few extra steps to make it Ride More compatible. See the step by step considerations below.
Other
Bike brands that have a handful of models that are not Ride More compatible:
Cannondale
Most Cannondale bikes work great with the Ride More system. However, some Cannondales have a 1.5" stem, which is not compatible with the Ride More system.
Scott
Many Scott bikes are great for Ride More. However some, including certain models of the the Spark 2017 and Scott Genius, have Syncros stem spacers that are not round. These spacers have a flat edge on the part of the spacer above your top tube and require a Syncros adapter to make your bike compatible with the Ride More system. This adapter allows you to create a flat surface for the Ride More spacer and front mount to sit on. Note though that that because the adapter is 4mm, you will need to swap out 14mm of spacer height (4mm for the adapter and 10mm for the Ride More spacer) when installing your Ride More system.
Trek
Some Trek bikes use a Bontrager knock block system which means the top of the spacer surface is not flat. If your spacers have bumps/ridges, you'll need a special lockring spacer to make your bike compatible with Ride More's front mount. You should be able to see whether your bike uses a knock block by going to the Trek website, or removing your bars and having a look at your spacers.
If you are not sure, send us a picture and we'll try to help! info@mac-ride.com.
GENERAL SIZING
We often get asked...is my child the right age? Are they too small? Too big? How do I know if my family is ready for Ride More? This is a tough one as there are a few variables at play.
Using the Ride More system should be comfortable for you and your child. You should be able to see over their helmet, have a relatively natural pedal stroke and be able to safely turn the handle bars. Taller parents with smaller children have the most time with Mac Ride once their child has progressed from Sky Ride. Shorter parents with taller children will possibly be more limited.
Bikes with dropper seat posts (seats that can move up and down with a push of your thumb on the button) are great for the Ride More system. They allow you to stop quickly, dropping your seat so you can easily put your foot down without having to move forward and straddle over the seat.
Also helpful are raised bars. The higher your handlebars, the more up right you are, and that tends to leave more space for your wee one.
Ride More is great on small, large, and extra large frames. We have yet to find an XL frame with a top tube that is too long for Ride More's telescopic bar. So far, the Ride More system has been able to lengthen to reach the steerer tube and seat post of all XL frames.
Sometimes it is more difficult to get a comfortable fit with an xs frame. Ride More fits this frame well, but the smaller space can make it harder for a shorter adult to feel comfortable with a little one up front.
We recommend Sky Ride for infants ages 1 to 2, and Mac Ride for children ages 2-5, but of course this is family dependent. There are many 18-20 month olds strong enough and ready for Mac Ride - they love having their helmet on, they are strong climbers, good listeners and really keen to ride with mom and dad.
